Qingdao University of Science and Technology is located in the beautiful costal city of Qingdao known as the “Eastern Switzerland", it was found in 1950, and formerly known as Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology.
It is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university offering academic degrees in Engineering, Science, Business, Management, Humanities, Medicine, and among others.

It has two campuses: the original covers 537 mu with school buildings covering 274,000 square meters; a second one is under construction. QUST has a staff totaling 1454, with 436 of them holding professorship.
There are 13 colleges and departments. Fourteen majors have been authorized to award the Master's degree. Presently there are13, 680 registered students and 329 registered postgraduates.
Also there are 30 majors and 13 associated majors (higher vocational); three provincial key majors; four provincial experimental courses; two provincial experimental majors; two provincial key labs; four provincial engineering technology researching centers; three municipal key labs; four municipal engineering technology researching centers; 12 research centers directly subordinated to the university; one most important provincial key major; two most important provincial key labs.

Moreover, QUST has been one of the leading universities in Shandong Province not only in the conducting but also in the evaluation and appraisal of scientific research. During the last decade, QUST has carried out 476 research projects, 70 of them were state projects. 191 research achievements have gone through appraisals and 89 of them have been above the advanced international level.
It has been awarded 161 scientific research achievement prizes (13 were State Technical Invention Prizes and State Science and Technology Progress Prizes). According to the ranking parade about the situation of gaining 3 State Technical Achievement Prizes among the state general universities, conducted by the Central Educational Institute for the period of 1997 to 1999, QUST ranks 5th for State Technical Invention Prize, and 74th for State Science and Technology Progress Prizes. And it ranks 67th according to "The List of Universities of the Patent Application Figure"(1985-2000) issued by the Technical Developing Center of Education Ministry.
QUST develops rapidly in co-operation and exchanges with other institutes. It has established six boards with 300 enterprises from home and abroad. Also, it has already established Sister University relationship with institutions of higher learning in many countries including Tambov State Technical University (Russia), Paderborn University (Germany) and universities in Japan, Canada and Korea. QUST has been inviting many foreign scholars and enrolled many foreign students, and is sending excellent teachers and students to study abroad.
